The Journey Thus Far

The Beginning

Alan and Rose Grant opened the first Lollipop’s Playland & Café in New Plymouth, New Zealand in November 1993. The idea developed when they noticed children were visiting fast food restaurants for the playground rather than the food. After extensive research in the USA, UK and Canada the first Lollipop’s Playland opened on the second floor of a shopping complex above a cinema multiplex.

New Zealand

After an initial proving period it was decided to expand Lollipop’s Playlands around New Zealand through franchising. Specific areas were targeted and at present there are 5 Playlands in operation in New Zealand with Master Franchisee Doug Budge managing their market.

Australia

Research into the Australian market began in 1996, by December 1997 the first Australian site was opened in Brisbane. Lollipop’s have since established another 16 sites in Australia. In 2005, after operating the site in Bentleigh East, Melbourne since 2002 as the franchisee, Tim Newman-Morris purchased the rights for the Australian group and became the Master Franchisee leaving Alan Grant liaising with the 2 independent country Master franchisees.

Indonesia

With so much success in Australia and New Zealand the concept was ready to expand again. In mid 2008 our first Indonesian site was opened in Jakarta with our new Indonesian Master Franchisee partner. They now have opened 6 playlands including a combined indoor playland and outdoor waterpark in Bali in Aug 2011.

New Ownership

On the 1st March 2011 Tim Newman-Morris and new business partner Bret Stremski bought out founder Alan Grant entirely and a new entity Lollipop’s International was formed.

Tim worked for McDonalds and Burger King for over 11 years and in Lollipop’s since 2002 so has significant industry experience.
He is on the board of AALARA which is the association which represents the entertainment industry in Australia.

Bret has worked for 23 years with McDonalds corporation with varied roles ranging from site management to marketing and franchise roles, culminating with being the franchisee of McDonalds in Kalgoorlie WA for 3 years from 2006 to 2009.

In April of 2012 Doug Budge purchased the Master Franchise in New Zealand and is working to increase the footprint of Lollipop's Playland and Cafe.
